Responding to an unfulfilled need in the community, The War Memorial has partnered with Emagine Entertainment, the regional leader in entertainment, to provide a truly special place for amusement and inspiration: The Patriot Cinema. This unique partnership is the result of a wide-ranging community survey conducted by The War Memorial as part of its strategic planning process.

By repurposing The War Memorial’s current theater space, The Patriot Cinema will not only fill a need voiced by the community, but will also further mobilize The War Memorial’s support of our Nation’s heroes — patriots in every form, from veterans to local police. A portion of every Patriot Cinema sale will be donated to The War Memorial’s Patriot Initiative, which provides financial support to organizations that deliver high-value services to patriots.

A theatrical experience unlike any other in Michigan, The Patriot Cinema will boast a house of approximately 250 luxury recliners, special box seating, and a safe and delightful children’s area. An elegant lobby and renovated restrooms will provide an inviting and hospitable welcome to patrons, and a well-appointed concession stand — featuring beer and wine among the refreshments — will guarantee a top-shelf experience for all. The visual motif will reflect a theme of patriotism.

A curated and boutique experience, The Patriot Cinema will present a diverse and exciting selection of programming ranging from first-run blockbusters to influential art films. It will foster an ecosystem for film festivals and live broadcasts including sporting and cultural events.

In addition to offering a superb and state-of-the-art movie-going experience, The Patriot Cinema will retain and enhance the multi-functional aspects of The War Memorial’s theater space, providing a stage for such thrilling events as live theatrical performances, presentations by influential speakers, and performances by world-class musicians and artists.

Renovations to form The Patriot Cinema will begin in 2017.

Grosse Pointe has a long history of supporting neighborhood cinema — movie houses such as The Punch and Judy Theater (1930–1977), the Woods 6 (1948–1997), and the Shores Theater (1935–2008) are all deeply embedded into the fabric and history of the community. Additionally, Grosse Pointe Park’s Windmill Pointe Park is currently home to two small theaters: the Okulski Family Theater and the Carol C. Schaap Theater.

Unlike the Okulski and Schaap theaters, however, The Patriot Cinema will not be exclusive to Grosse Pointe residents — the superb patron experience, on the glittering waters of Lake Saint Clair, will be open to the public from all communities.

“The War Memorial is committed to curating an environment where people, arts, entertainment, patriotism, and culture come together at their best,” said Charles Burke, President and CEO of The War Memorial. “We are responding to and growing with the needs of our community, honoring our past, and building upon the integrity of a wonderful campus for Southeastern Michigan. Through growth such as The Patriot Cinema, and our partnership with Emagine Entertainment, The War Memorial is enabled to fulfill its mission as a patriotic, cultural, and community leader.”

Emagine Entertainment, a Pure Michigan company owned and operated by Michigan names, partners with local businesses and organizations across southeast Michigan to make a difference in the lives of community members. The company enjoys the honor and distinction of being named Detroit’s Best Movie Theater for several years by the Detroit Free Press, The Detroit News, and WDIV Local 4.

“We are very pleased to be teaming-up with The War Memorial to incorporate another great dimension of community service to an already outstanding venue: exemplary first-run filmed entertainment,” said Paul Glantz, Co-Founder and CEO of Emagine Entertainment, Inc.
