A time of remembrance for those who have given their lives in service to our country

GROSSE POINTE FARMS, MICHIGAN — The War Memorial’s moving Memorial Day services will take place on May 29 at 10am in honor of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Major General David G. Bassett, U.S. Army Program Executive Officer for Ground Combat Systems, will speak at the Service. Also participating are members of the Grosse Pointe Veterans Club, local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, the Ritual Firing Team of V.F.W. Bruce Post 1146, Knights of Columbus, the Grosse Pointe Veterans Garden, and the Grosse Pointe American Legion.

The event features a reading of the names of fallen Grosse Pointe service members from all military branches, followed by the Tolling of the Bell and a Rifle Salute. An Honor Guard will perform the Advancing and Placing of Colors, and patriotic music will be provided by the Motor City Brass Band. A military fly-over from Selfridge Air National Guard Base will also feature in the day’s ceremony.

The Service will conclude with a moment of solemnity, featuring Amazing Grace performed on bagpipes.

The Memorial Day Service is free, open to the public, and attended by hundreds of members of the community. Guests are welcome to experience the Service from their boats. No registration is required.
