Job Title: Steward

Reports to: Executive Chef

Schedule: Days, Evenings, Weekends

Status: Hourly – Non-exempt

Job Summary

Participate as a team to ensure clean and organized kitchen area and provide support as needed to kitchen and waitstaff.

Responsibilities

• Maintain clean kitchen environment to include but not limited to storage and food preparation areas

• Proper washing and storage of all kitchen ware (china, glassware, hollowware, silverware, cooking utensils, etc.)

• Proper use, maintenance and storage of kitchen utensils, tools, and equipment

• Assist with minor food preparation (rinse, cut, chop, peel) and serving as needed

• Keep Sous Chef informed as to chemical, and supply needs to ensure proper stock at all times

• Check with supervisor at the end of each shift as to the overall condition of kitchen prior to end of shift. Dishwashers should be empty and cleaned, mats and floor cleaned, trash, linens properly handled

• Clean hand sinks, fill soap and towels daily, clean hoods, filters and drip pans as needed

• Notify Sous Chef of equipment malfunctions or required maintenance

• Maintain a safe and sanitary kitchen in accordance with the NRA and Wayne County Health Department cleaning and sanitation practices

• Follow all safety, general kitchen procedures

• Participate in identification and implementation of process improvement and cost savings measures, while ensuring high quality services

• Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a team environment is support of the Five Pillars of Excellence and “preferred culture”

• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation

• Other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred

• Previous kitchen experience, preferred

• Effective verbal communication and attention to detail required

• Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment preferred

• Must be able to work in extreme temperatures

• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task and remain calm

• Frequent, heavy lifting required up to 50 lbs.

• Prolonged standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending required
