Teen Driver Education Postponement Statement
Updated November 17, 2020
To all Teen Driver Education enrollees and family members:
As you know, The War Memorial has made the difficult decision to postpone all current Teen Driver Education courses. We have taken this action out of an abundance of caution due to:
The new restrictions imposed by the MDHHS November 18, 2020 Gatherings and Face Mask Order
At least one confirmed COVID-19 case amongst the Driver Education enrollees
At least one confirmed COVID-19 case amongst adults who are routinely onsite at The War Memorial
The health and safety of all students, instructors, and staff is of paramount concern to War Memorial leadership, and despite the inconvenience of postponed and/or canceled functions, we stand firm in this decision. Teen Driver Training is one of many programs affected by this decision.
Please thoroughly review the following information:
The postponement is only temporary. We currently aim to resume classes on Wednesday, December 9, 2020. In the event of additional MDHHS restrictions, or worsening COVID-19 cases, The War Memorial may reevaluate the start-up date.
Students will be notified by email when the updated schedule is complete. Please note that, due to the large volume of students enrolled in Teen Driver Education, it is impossible to accommodate special requests during the rescheduling process, and all rescheduled dates are subject to change based on situations related to COVID-19.
Grosse Pointe Driving School is not currently prepared to offer online classes. While online Teen Driver Education classes have been temporarily approved by the Michigan legislature during the pandemic crisis, the Grosse Pointe Driving School, which is a private contractor of The War Memorial, is not currently able to fulfill the technological, training, and staff requirements to successfully implement a virtual program. That said, the GPDS aims to offer this service in 2021.
The War Memorial campus is currently closed to the public and staff are working remotely. Please communicate with Director of Campus Services and Community Partners, Denise Fry, via email at dfry@warmemorial.org.
If you wish to withdraw your student and receive a refund, we may be able to accommodate you. Please email Denise Fry via the contact information above for more details.
We understand the difficulties of this time; The War Memorial and Grosse Pointe Driving School staff are experiencing the same level of frustration as many of our enrollees and their families. That said, we believe that by working together and following the MDHHS orders, we will be able to resume normal activities soon.
Your understanding and cooperation are greatly appreciated.
