Christmas is here! In the final days before the big day, we take a look at a USA Today article that serves as a guide to over 100 family films to watch this holiday!


Festive, historical and cultural events for all to enjoy!

The War Memorial would like to thank all who attended any or all of our holiday events and activities! Last night we wrapped up our final event of the holiday season with the Scott Gwinnell Jazz Orchestra.

Christmas is a big celebration in December, but it certainly isn’t the only one for many families. The final month of the year also features other religious and historical holidays, alongside cultural ones, too! Check out the events listed below that the entire family is sure to enjoy!

  • A Christmas Carol at Meadow Brook Theatre

    • Through Dec. 24, 2022

    • A crabby old man learns the true meaning of Christmas once he is visited by three ghosts the night before Christmas.

  • “‘Twas the Night Before…” by Cirque du Soleil at the Fox Theatre

    • Dec. 24, 26, 2022

    • Cirque du Soleil puts their spin on the beloved Christmas classic. Join a curious little girl named Isabella as she is taken to an upside-down, inside-out world.

  • Chanukah Wonderland at The Gateway Center Mall

    • Dec. 25, 2022

    • Find a dreidel bounce house, dance machines, latkes and a tot town filled with all kinds of kid-friendly fun at this annual event.

  • Motor City Kwanzaa Kinara Lighting at Campus Martius

    • Dec. 26, 2022 

    • Head to Campus Martius to see the world’s largest Kwanzaa Kinara, as it is put alongside the Christmas Tree and Menorah!

What to watch this holiday season 

Want to stay inside after Christmas and spend time relaxing with the family? One way to unwind as the year wraps up is by watching your favorite movie! This week, we examine an article from USA Today that lists plenty of films to watch, ranging from steaming services like Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max.  

On Disney+, Kevin McCallister in “Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” tops the list. Others include Disney’s “A Christmas Carol” and “I'll Be Home for Christmas.”  

Netflix selections include “White Christmas,” “Home for the Holidays,” and “The Christmas Chronicles.”  

From HBO Max, featured movies are “Elf,” “The Polar Express,” and seven movies from the “Harry Potter” film series.
