Special needs fair comes to The War Memorial. More than 30 vendors will be on site

Sanctuary

In the spirit of partnership, we are excited to share the latest exhibition from our friends at Grosse Pointe Artists Association. This exhibition, Sanctuary, encouraged artists to submit work that illustrates how individuals and communities find space, solace and safety in troubled times. Through the pieces, artistes display a variety of themes, and styles that highlighted their specific pieces.

Ian Matchett, director of the Swords to Plowshares Peace Center and Gallery on Grand Circus Park in downtown Detroit, juried the show, which includes 53 pieces of arts by 39 different artists. The show is available to view at the new gallery space at The War Memorial until March 10.

The Family Center set to bring in over 30 vendors for special needs resource fair

A special needs resource fair is scheduled for Feb. 28 at the Fred M. Alger Center at The War Memorial. Presented by The Family Center of Grosse Pointe and Harper Woods, the free event includes over 30 vendors.

The fair, from 4 to 8 p.m., is intended for parents and caregivers looking for supportive opportunities for their neuro-diverse children ages birth to 26. Vendors include recreational, educational, and occupational resources, along with mental health, legal and government services. The event is The Family Center’s first comprehensive resource fair showcasing opportunities and support for neuro-diverse children and their families.

More than 30 vendors will be on hand. In addition to The War Memorial, Jennifer Bingaman, executive director of the center, said fair partners include The Arc, Full Circle, Grosse Pointe Public School System Transition Services, Kids On The Go and Lumen Pediatric Therapy.

Attendees will be able to gather general information, ask questions, and interact with vendors and other parents. A quiet recovery space will be available. Admission and vendor participation are free.
