Fall festivities planned at The War Memorial

Fall at The War Memorial brings about events like a murder mystery dinner, comedy cuisine and our annual Veterans Day breakfast.

Autumnal events commence Sept. 28 with the Wine Counselor, lead by Michael Schafer. Schafer returns twice more in the fall, on Oct. 12 and Nov. 2. The September event includes tequila and mezcal temptations; the October gathering is How to Taste Wine Like a Sommelier; and November will focus on the Subtleties of Scotch.

New this fall at The War Memorial is a murder mystery dinner- Best Laid Plans, An Old Hollywood Whodunnit, set for Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. Put on by the Murder Mystery Co., the night is described as a quintessential whodunnit thriller at the estate of Sir Warren Peace. Dinner will proceed while the murder mystery plays out. Cocktail hour is at 6:30 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m.

“Get thrown into a night of mystery, intrigue, and murder you will never forget,” the description reads. “With a killer crowd just waiting for murder to arrive on the scene, this night will keep everyone looking over their shoulders and guessing who the next victim will be. Bribe suspects for clues and gather information to uncover the unhinged guest whacking all the invitees.”

Folks are asked to dress their best in evening wear and suits. Tickets for the murder mystery dinner must be purchased at least two weeks prior to the event. Tickets are $75 including a welcome libation, or $575 for a table of eight, including one welcome libation per guest.

A marquee patriotic event is set for Nov. 10 with our Veterans Day breakfast for military veterans and active duty servicemembers. Doors to the event open at 8:15 a.m., with breakfast and the program beginning at 9 a.m. The Veterans Day Breakfast offers a space for local service members to experience camaraderie through shared stories and hospitality. Breakfast is free for veterans to attend; veterans may bring one guest each at a cost of $15.

November at The War Memorial wraps up with Comedy and Cocktails: The All-Star Showdown on Nov. 30, beginning at 7 p.m. The evening includes a night of unstoppable laughter with unscripted and hilarious improv comedy. The audience becomes part of the action while two comedic teams compete for your amusement in a high-energy battle of wits and humor. Tickets sales end Oct. 20.
