Week Twelve: “Detroit History Podcast,” Professor Tim Kiska, University of Michigan-Dearborn
Professor of Communication
Tim Kiska
Rather than a traditional course, this week we feature another series of podcasts present. The Detroit History Podcast is a wonderful introduction to our region’s social, cultural, economic, and political history. Produced and hosted by UM-Dearborn Professor (and longtime Detroit journalist) Tim Kiska, the four seasons and 40+ episodes of the podcast focus on important topics such as 1950s McCarthyism (Season 3 – Episode 7: “The Politics of Fear”) and others that are just plain fun (Season One, Episode 1 – “When the Beatles Came to Detroit”).
To get a sense of the series, look at Season One, Episode 2. This episode recounts the story of how a young union organizer who was already prominent in labor circles and the black community came to be well-known across metro Detroit.
