Julian Fellows, the creator of “Downtown Abbey, has a new series out on Apple+, ”The Gilded Age.” The new show is a soap opera set in a transformational time in history, America’s rapid 1870-1900 industrialization which led to an unprecedented concentration of wealth. Like any good period drama, the new series is prompting renewed interest in its period. With that in mind, we point you to a series of podcasts on the real Gilded Age by Professor Greg Jackson of Utah Valley University.
Professor Jackson presented these sessions between June 7 and November 22, 2021, as a part of his “History That Doesn’t Suck”(HTDS) project. HTDS has been described as a “bi-weekly podcast, delivering a legit, seriously researched, hard-hitting survey of American history through entertaining stories.” We can confirm that HTDS is legit, well-researched and seriously entertaining. The Gilded Age sessions are episodes 91 through 102 in HTDS’ growing library.
