The Long Vietnam War

Explore the complexities and history of the Vietnam War at an exhibit that aims to educate the community on this conflict and its legacy.
The exhibit, titled The Long Vietnam War, includes artifacts and stories from Vietnam War veterans, family members, and organizations The Grosse Pointe News, Swords Into Plowshares Peace Center and Gallery, Burton Historical Collection, and the Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society.
Items in the exhibit include a three-poncho hooch, the story behind a teddy bear, local newspaper coverage of the war, what one soldier carried with him as a reminder of home, military medals, an Army collapsible field mailbox system, and more.
The Long Vietnam War exhibit is in the Patriot Gallery located underneath the Ballroom of the Fred M. Alger Center on the waterfront side and is on display through Veterans Day. To learn more about The War Memorial’s Vietnam War Commemoration Celebration, click here.
The exhibit will run from March 29 thru Veterans Day, November 11, 2025. The Patriot Gallery on The War Memorial campus is open weekdays, 9 am - 7 pm and on weekends, 9 am - 5 pm.
