Declaration of Independence Live Reading & Ice Cream Social
Join The War Memorial and the Louisa St. Clair Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution for a special evening commemorating America's 250th anniversary.
As part of the nationwide Sharing the Spirit of America initiative, communities across Michigan and throughout the country will gather for a simultaneous public reading of the Declaration, echoing the first public readings held in 1776. Together, we'll join thousands of Americans in a shared national moment and reflect on the ideals that continue to unite us today.
Local readers include Grosse Pointe Mayor Sheila Tomkowiak, Grosse Pointe Woods Mayor Arthur Bryant, Navy Capt. (Ret) Petersen Decker, War Memorial President & CEO Maria Miller, and Louisa St. Clair Chapter NSDAR Chapter Regent Deann Newman.
Following the reading, linger on the lakefront lawn with an old-fashioned ice cream social while children enjoy patriotic-themed crafts provided by the DAR.
Whether you're a history enthusiast, a family looking for a meaningful summer outing, or simply someone who values community, we hope you'll join us for this free evening of reflection, connection, and shared celebration.
