Watercolor workshop planned with GPAA
A new year bring a new workshop with the Grosse Pointe Artists Association.
Watercolor workshop with Nancy Philo: Painting a portrait in the style of Andrew Wyeth, is set for Jan. 13, beginning at 11 a.m. at The War Memorial.
Folks are encouraged to bring a photo of someone you know well, an open mind and willing hand to this class, as painting a portrait in the dry brush style of Andrew Wyeth is explored. The photo should be a head and seated torso for best results and at least 5inx7in or 8.5inx11in.
The workshop begins by practicing Wyeth's technique using watercolor and pencil, then create a portrait based on the photo you bring. For this class you must have a working familiarity with tube watercolors.

2024: The War Memorial’s 75th anniversary
The year was 1949. Gas was about $0.27 a gallon, a new home could be purchased for less than $8,000, and a new car sold for under $1,500. On the shores of Lake St. Clair in Grosse Pointe Farms, a priceless community asset - the Grosse Pointe War Memorial Association - was established.
For three-quarters of a century, The War Memorial has proudly stood as a symbol of unity, celebrating the rich tapestry of our community and enhancing the lives of those who visit our campus. From honoring our veterans to educational and enriching activities, to embrace the diversity that defines us, our mission has been to strengthen the bonds that tie our community together.
