Rise Above Exhibit coming to The War Memorial as part of D-Day commemoration
GROSSE POINTE FARMS May 8, 2024 – A unique exhibit will soon enhance the D-Day anniversary experience at The War Memorial.
The War Memorial is proud to host Rise Above - a traveling exhibit and immersive mobile movie theater featuring two original short films detailing the Tuskegee Airmen and Women Airforce Service Pilots and obstacles they overcame in flying — and fighting — for their country. The exhibit, presented by the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Red Tail Squadron, will be open to the public from June 5-8.
The traveling exhibit will be at The War Memorial, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of D-Day commemoration set for Thursday, June 6 at 6 p.m. The War Memorial is located at 32 Lake Shore Drive in Grosse Pointe Farms.
“Having the Rise Above Exhibit at The War Memorial is a great addition to our commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day,” War Memorial President & CEO Maria Miller said. “We are excited for the public to visit this educational gem that will bring inspiration to our community and exemplify the Tuskegee Airmen and Women Airforce Service Pilots ability to triumph over adversity. It serves as a means to inspire others to rise above challenges in their own lives.”
This immersive experience is housed in a climate-controlled 53-foot-long semi-trailer with expandable sides and equipped with a ramp and hydraulic lift to ensure access to all, comfortably accommodating 30-40 visitors for each showing.
The exhibit, free to attend, will be open on the following dates and times:
June 5: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
June 6: noon to 7 p.m.
June 7: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
June 8: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
