Week Ten: “Government and Civics,” John Dickerson, CBS News & Sal Khan, Khan Academy
This week we travel down to Washington DC
John Dickerson, CBS News and Sal Khan, Khan Academy
We’re in our nation’s capital to sample a course on American Government and Civics taught by John Dickerson from CBS News and hosted by Sal Khan of the Khan Academy. This episode also brings the American Democracy Initiative back to where we started in September 2020 when we rolled-out our first video/audio series composed of 10 Khan Academy sessions on the US Constitution taught by historians Walter Isaacson and Joseph Ellis.
Dickerson’s course, “Government and Civics” is organized around 3 thematic lessons (1. Why it Matters? 2. What has changed? 3.Presidential History). “Why it Matters?” begins with a general introduction to the course followed by Dickerson explaining why it is not only important to study US history and civics but that, through the stories making up our history, also quite entertaining. Because Congressional “midterm” elections are coming up this fall, we especially wanted to call your attention to the four short lectures (the 3rd through 6th) on that subject.
