DIA invites senior groups to enjoy music at the museum this month

The “Melodies at the Museum” series continues Wednesday at the Detroit Institute of Arts with a performance by the Alvin Waddles and Marion Hayden Quartet. Senior groups from Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties are welcome to attend.

They will entertain the audience with original songs, jazz standards, and more. The quartet also performed at the museum on Dec. 6.

The music program is designed to provide a unique museum experience for seniors from metro Detroit. General admission is free for members and residents of Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties.

Wreaths Across America ceremony set in Macomb County

Remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and teach children the value of freedom. That is the goal of an upcoming ceremony with Wreaths Across America.

A Wreaths Across America ceremony is planned for Dec. 16 at noon at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township. Wreath placement on the graves of our country's fallen heroes beings immediately following the ceremony. As wreaths are placed, the veterans name will be read.

Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization established in 2007. Its primary activity is distributing veteran's wreaths for placement on graves in military cemeteries.

Last year, Wreaths Across America and its national network of volunteers placed more than 2.7 million sponsored veterans' wreaths on headstones of our nation's service members at 3,702 participating locations.

Resurrection Cemetery is located at 18201 Clinton River Road.
