Detroit Tigers home opener 2023

The first week of April is here and that means time for baseball in Detroit! The Detroit Tigers home opener is today at 1:10 p.m. against the Boston Red Sox at Comerica Park.

Last year’s hometown team finished in fourth place in the American League Central Division, with a record of 66-96, 11 wins less than the 2021 season. New additions to this year’s squad include outfielder Matt Vierling and shortstop Nick Maton. Manager A.J. Hinch is in his third year of leading the team, a roster that has not been to the playoffs since 2014.

This year marks the final season for 12-time All Star Miguel Cabrera. The 39-year-old Cabrera will retire after the season and has spent 16 years of his 21-year career in Detroit.
